Every Blessing Is Borrowed—Don’t Take It for Granted

I once took the many things I had for granted. I assumed it was by my works and wisdom that I had the good things I enjoyed. But the moment things began to fall apart, I came to a humble realization: I was never the one holding it all together. It took being stripped of certain comforts to see that what I had was not guaranteed. I began to reflect on lots of things, and how quick I was to make assumptions about situations. But grace humbled me. Grace opened my eyes. When I was in need, I was helped. But there was a time I didn’t help others because I judged them. I thought they didn’t try hard enough or pray enough. I thought they were the reason for their own misfortune. Then I became the one who needed mercy—and God gave it to me. Not because I was deserving, but because He is gracious. It’s easy to believe we are in control when everything is going smoothly. It’s easy to think we earned every good thing through our own effort. But when the ground beneath us shakes, we remember that we are human—fragile and dependent on a God who sustains us, even when we don’t realize it. Sometimes, we need to be reminded that the blessings we have are not by our own doing. Our health, peace, family, daily bread—none of it is permanent or promised. It’s all a gift. A borrowed blessing. So today, if you have something good in your life, thank God. Not just because it’s there, but because it could have been otherwise. Gratitude shifts our hearts and helps us see the invincible Supreme hands that hold us up daily. Let’s choose gratitude. Let’s walk in humility. And let’s never take grace for granted. “But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect.” — 1 Corinthians 15:10 KJV.
