MARRIAGE AND PURPOSE

I recently read a story of a minister who burned with passion to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As a young man, it was his only focus and even when he got married, he went about preaching the Gospel in different cities. He loved the Lord Jesus and he was gladly spreading the good news of His love. His wife became bitter and hated the fact that her husband travelled for days to preach. She restrained him from travelling to different countries or cities for the work of God. She wanted him to be more of a husband to her and a father to their kids than being a minister of God’s Word. He became unreliable to the ministers who invited him to preach in their churches or church events. He finally walked out of the faith because he felt he could not preach anymore and he was frustrated and depressed because he felt like a disappointment.

This story is to show us how important our spouse is to our fulfillment of purpose. We may say things like we are New Testament believers and thus under Grace. It’s no doubt that Grace has been made abundantly available to us in Christ Jesus. It’s also obvious that we cannot make a better choice of a spouse except we’re led by the Holy Spirit. Come to think of it, even if God asks us to go ahead and choose a spouse for ourselves, we won’t see them pass their physical looks, race, class, wealth etc and these things are totally out of context when marriage is concerned. Without the leadership and guidance of the Holy Spirit we won’t be able to see people pass their physical appearance. Don’t forget that marriage is just a part of life; it’s not what constitutes our purpose in Christ Jesus. God knows our personalities better than we do and He knows who will fit better with another than we do. He knows the end from the beginning. God does not call the qualified, He qualifies the called and all you need to do is to let yourself be available for God’s purpose. I also realized that marriage is one of the most sensitive areas in many believers’ lives and so trusting God to bring you and your spouse together will help you trust Him in more areas of your life. Remember that fellowship will build your spiritual sensitivity to the Spirit of God and when He speaks you will understand. Mind you not to be dependent on other people’s prophesies, words of knowledge in this area (Let God be true only).

We all shout ‘Amen’ in church when the minister is preaching but we don’t burn with the same passion for the things of God. Everyone has their reason for going to church and it may not always be about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We are called to co-labor with Jesus in the ministry of reconciliation, that is, reconciling the world to the Father. Be more focused on fellowship with the Father, give yourself time to study the Word and pray exalting the Father with worship and praise. Just let God do what He foreordained to do in your life and don't forget your spouse is one of the people He desires to use for His purpose. (Ephesians 1,  2 Timothy 1:9, Romans 8:28).

You are Blessed!!
