Many believers find it much easier to read the bible daily than to pray
daily. I’ve been there too and after a while this is what I discovered, reading
the Word of God is just as important as prayer. The two go together; when you
have a stable prayer life your understanding of the Word is enlightened. It is
important to note that those who pray often read God’s Word often; the desire
keeps burning more and more for the Word. As a believer prayer shouldn’t
be seen as a chore because it will become burdensome, it should be more like a
lifestyle. It becomes a chore when you set a time limit to pray because it may
serve as a distraction in itself. Your focus will mostly be on praying up to
that set length of time and you are likely not to pray for long because you
keep thinking that it’s almost half of the set time gone. One time I said to
myself that I will pray daily for 2 hours 40 minutes. Within three days, it was
already weighing me down of which I hadn’t prayed for that long but one day as
I worshipped and prayed out of love for the Father, I realized I had done so
for two hours 27 minutes.
The very first thing to bear in mind as you pray is that God is your Father
and He has given you free access to Him through His Son Jesus Christ. You are
so welcome and the answer to your prayers in Christ is ‘Yea’ and ‘Amen’. He is
always present and He lives in you as well as you are His forever. Jesus had
dealt completely with the aspect of sin through His incarnation as MAN
representing all of humanity in Himself, His death, burial, resurrection,
ascension and He’s seated at the Right Hand of the Father with you. If you are
going to take out time to fellowship with God in prayer, it means there will be
something you’ll spend less time on or forego. It might be the number of hours
you spend watching TV, browsing and texting or even sleeping. There are times
when our minds can only quite down when everyone is asleep and there are some
things we do till after midnight that is not really worth it(I used to watched
TV till 4:00am) which ends up draining so much of our energy. Do you know that
it takes some amount of will power to get a habit started? Yes, be intentional
about your prayer time. I will tell you one thing a Christian without a prayer
life is as good as an unbeliever, they alike in that they just live anyhow,
they are afraid, insecure, confused and neglect fellowship. When you start
neglecting fellowship, the Word of God no longer comes to you with that
freshness, that beauty and power of every encounter. It becomes a déjà vu and
you now start taking scripture to suit your situation at every count. It is
through fellowship in prayer and the Word that the Holy Spirit reveals to us
that which pertains to us as Sons of God, He reveals to us who we are in Christ
and how great is the love of the Father towards us His sons.
Challenge yourself to take out some of your time daily to worship (aloud if
possible), praise and exalt God and after a while write how you feel in your
journal. The joy that will flow from within and your confidence will be awesome.
Pray daily in the Holy Ghost and in your understanding, speak words of love and
adoration to the Father and don’t forget that you are not trying to make Him do
something for you because He has freely given us all things in Christ Jesus (Ephesians
1:3). Jesus is the perfect example of prayer, He always took out time to
fellowship with His Father (Luke 5:16). Apostle Paul in all his epistles he
makes statements like ‘we never cease to pray for you’, meaning he was a man of
prayer. Apostle Peter was a man of prayer as well as Timothy. Fellowship takes
away fear, insecurity, unrest, worry and gives awareness of your spiritual
blessings in Christ, authority, joy, wisdom and you become aware of Jesus being
your life. The scriptural references are, Ephesians 1, Colossians 2:9
Colossians 3:3-4. Romans 8:37-39, Romans 5:8, 1 John 4:9-11, Galatians 2:20,
Ephesians 2:4-5).
You're Blessed!!!
