It's february and in most parts of the world people are
looking forward to celebrate valentines day with their beloveds.
Stomachs are churning with butterflies and heads are spinning thinking
about the kind of gifts to buy or would love to receive during this
time. The count down has started and the clock is ticking 'tic' 'toc'
back and forth. When i was a teenager, we had things like school dance
where you might be opportuned to dance with your crush or boyfriend
(lol), there was gift exchange amongst classmates, and there was also
inter school blind dates. It was so much fun eventhough some people
ended up hurt and cried all day. They cried because their dates didn't
meet up their expectations, some cried because their gifts were debasing
and others because their dates didn't show up. During this time, there
is so much pressure because alot of girls (especially) believe that
gifts mean they are loved by these guys or it makes them feel beautiful.
Alot of girls save their allowances for a time like this to buy the
most expensive gifts for their boyfriends. Watch out for desperation,
yes, i remember going on dates during christmas and valentine's day
because i didn't want to be left out. I wanted to receive a gift like
every other girl but guess what? The guys i went on a date with were
boring, selfish and proud and i felt so stupid hanging out with such a
guy. Too bad, i just wanted to go a date like every other girl my
age(yuck). Your mindset and thought system can put you up for quite alot
of stupid things if you are not careful.
As a young single
christian, don't go on a date because you want to belong, or you feel
alone and left out or because you think it's convenient. Go on a date
because you love someone, you want to spend time with them and it also
makes you happy to be in their company. Don't let valentine's day
pressure push you to think and do things that you will regret later. You
not having a date doesn't have to make you sad or feel unwanted or
unloved you can also celebrate better with family and friends. Have all
the fun you can with family, after all valentine's day is not the
definition of perfect love. Be happy and love the unique you and never
forget your happiness is not supposed to be dependent on such things.
Even if you don't go on a date or receive a gift, you are loved in more
ways than you think. Remember that when you find that special someone
God has chosen for you to share your life with, everyday will be like
valentine's day. There will be no pressure, you will be happy and you
will know you are loved. Where your love (sweetheart) is, there your
heart will be. Celebrate everyday knowing that you are living in God's
abundant love and grace which is more than words can express. Date or no
date for valentine's day, remember Jesus loves you lots!
