In my
childhood days, I was singing in the choir and there was this song we loved to
sing; it goes thus
Standing on the rock, standing on the rock,
standing on the rock, Jesus is the rock!
I didn’t quite understand
that song because I was just singing it and not giving myself any time to
understand it in any way. I recently read the Gospel according to St Luke where
the eyes of my understanding were enlightened to the reality of this verse. The
Bible says in Luke 6:47-49 Amplified Bible “Everyone who comes
to Me and listens to My words and obeys them, I will show you whom he is like:
48 he is like a [far-sighted, practical, and sensible] man
building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a
flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and yet could not shake
it, because it had been securely built and founded on the rock.
49 But the one who has [merely] heard and has not practiced [what I say], is like a [foolish] man who built a house on the
ground without any foundation, and the torrent burst against it; and it
immediately collapsed, and the ruin of that house was great.” Here Jesus
likens anyone who is tossed around by any wind of doctrine as a man who built
his house on soil (which can be another man, his senses, emotions, desires etc)
and when the challenges of life came, he was completely lost and couldn’t help
but sink. I’m sorry to say this but most believers fall in this category. Many
believers are after miracles and prophesies of all sorts, deliverance and anointed
things. Few of them take out time to study the Word of God, whatever any ‘man
of god’ introduces is what they follow blindly and their lives end up worse
than before. Believers follow men of God for words of prophecy or knowledge and
it even gets to the point where, if the man of god doesn’t prophesy or release
something he has anointed for the believers to walk with, they become afraid of
the future. This sounds simple and you may think it’s not happening but people
have lost their lives and others have become frustrated because of things like
this.
The Only Rock we have is
Jesus Christ. He is the Savior of mankind; He became our fears that we might be
fearless in Him, He is the Mercy Seat of the Father and in Him our lives are
preserved. Being placed in the Son; Ephesians 1: 5-7 “ He
predestined and lovingly planned for us to be adopted to Himself as [His
own] children through Jesus Christ, in accordance with the kind intention and
good pleasure of His will— 6 to the praise of His glorious grace and
favor, which He so freely bestowed on us in the Beloved [His Son, Jesus Christ].
7 In Him we have
redemption [that is, our deliverance and salvation] through His blood, [which
paid the penalty for our sin and resulted in] the forgiveness and
complete pardon of our sin, in accordance with the riches of His grace”,
we have the life of God in us (Colossians 3:3).
In Him we live and move and have our being (Acts17:28, 1 John 4:4) He
dwells in us and we are more than conquerors. We have His incorruptible,
indestructible and immortal life in us. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the Only Rock man
can build on and won’t be moved by the different confusing doctrines in this
world. A heart whose system of doctrine is not based on the truth will always
be unstable. By the Spirit of God at work in you, you can burn with an undying,
unquenchable and unshakable passion for Jesus Christ, after all He’s your life.
Take special not that what is the truth is authentic and nothing can be added
to it. As you seek to know the Truth (the Word of God), the Holy Spirit will
lead you to a ministry where this truth is taught.
You’re blessed!
