BE YOU, EVEN ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND OTHER SOCIAL SYSTEMS

Behind a computer screen nobody knows you are a cat. This is a statement I came across some years ago on social media and I believe it is true. On social media quite a number of people are not themselves and I’m not saying this to judge or criticize anyone but they do this for quite many different reasons. On social media some of us Christians have joined unbelieving folks in playing ‘catfish’ and deception. We have resorted to behaviors like creating two or more accounts for strange reasons. One account may have your picture and you are acting all holy and born again, copying and pasting other Christians post to belong to that category. Then, comes the anonymous account with a name that maybe describes whatever you aim at posting or tweeting. Take note here that the enemy likes secrecy and anything you do in secret he will always encourage you further so you can be two faced. Then the anonymous account might be to post immoral, indecent, disrespectful and cussing posts and tweets. And your slogan at that moment is ‘no one knows it is me posting these things’ because the profile picture or avatar you have chosen will reflect what you want to tweet or post. You chat with strangers and instead of pointing them to Christ you are showing them photos of nudity and filth (pornography). When you go to your “godly profile” you post and tweet about Jesus Christ. At times these posts get so confusing; mixing all sorts of doctrines.

That sounds to me like the ways of a coward and you are deceiving none other than yourself. If you don’t come out clear about your addictions or struggles; fears, insecurities, I’m afraid no one will be able to help you. If you are battling pornography or bullying, talk to someone. You don’t need to pretend because Jesus became your shame so that you will be unashamed to come to Him as you are. Someone may have treated you badly or bullied at you but creating a secret account in order to cuss them won’t help you. Maybe the person you’re cussing doesn’t give a heck about your pain and hasn’t even seen the posts and you are thus barking on the wrong tree or hurting even more.

You are not expected to be perfect because the strength of God is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:7-9). If you feel pressured, seeking a solution out of Jesus Christ will only cause you more pain. God knew from the foundation of the world how much we will struggle with our flaws and weaknesses and that is why He sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ(John 3:16). Not only that, we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us helping us in our infirmities; infirmities here means weaknesses and flaws.

Never forget that everyone will not agree with everything you say but be firm enough to stand on the Word of God and what it says about you. If anyone makes a mockery of you because of your faith tell them you were worth dying for and that is why Jesus came as the Son of Man. You don’t always have to justify your actions but do what will give God glory. He doesn’t reject you because of your weaknesses but rather His grace is sufficient for you. The love of God surpasses all understanding (Ephesians 3:19) that is why we can never fathom it, he loves beyond human understanding. Be proud to be you, accept your weaknesses, your weaknesses are not to condemn you because you have been made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

I perfectly understand how difficult it is to open up to someone about the things you do or feel in secret but the more you keep it secret, the more the enemy will use it to make you feel you are not worthy of God’s love and forgiveness.  Big lie! If you were the only sinner, Jesus would have still died for you (alone) and that is how much God loves you. If you cannot talk about your struggles, fears, insecurities or addictions with your parents, buddy, or even spouse; if you know someone who can help you. Write a letter or mail and send to them explain everything and don’t forget to pray about it yourself. Don’t punish yourself because anyone the Son has set free is indeed (John 8:36). The people you seem t compare yourself with thinking they are perfect have their share of battles they are fighting. Let Jesus be your mirror. See yourself justified by faith in Him alone (Romans 5:1-2) and acknowledge every good thing which in you in Christ (Philemon 6).

You are Blessed!
