Esther was a beautiful and smart maiden but that was not all that she was made of. God was with her and because God had her back she found favor before everyone that she met. In Esther 2:9, we see that Esther found favor first with Hegai the king’s chamberlain, who showed her kindness and took special care of her. He also assigned seven maids to attend to Esther and set them in the best place in the harem. Beauty alone cannot do that, it is favor. Then Hegai gave Esther the best treatment for her skin and gave her counsel. This is because he saw a queen in Esther and he treated her thus. Esther was not the first to go to the king; several maidens went to King Ahasuerus but he didn’t take delight in any of them. Take note, timing is very crucial here. Esther’s turn finally came and when she stepped out of her chambers she “obtained favor in the sight of all them that looked upon her” Esther 2:15b. Esther didn’t do anything to make them favor her and she took only what Hegai gave her to take before the king. God has ordained us with favor, victory, success, joy etc. He did it for Esther and He’s doing it for us and will do it forever more. I would like you to know that Esther’s beauty had nothing to do with how people treated her. She wasn’t the most beautiful of the maidens, all she had was God’s favor and which took her to places she never dreamed she’ll be. Let’s be practical, if Esther looked at her background and her nativity, she wouldn’t have joined the other maidens to go to the king. Why? Because she was a Jew, that’s why she hid her identity and the reason why Mordecai was worried and would often check on her if she would be alright. When God’s hand is upon your life, your race, height, beauty, fears, insecurities etc would only serve as stepping stones and not stumbling blocks. Don’t brood and say I can’t do this or that or whatever, I can’t get here and so I’m giving up. Hello? This is about Grace and favor before God and man, depending on yourself will only worsen matters.
How I love this part of the story when Esther goes before the King. Esther 2: 17 says” And the King loved Esther above all the women and she obtained grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown upon her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti”. When the King saw Esther, because of the light of God in her that radiates from within, King Ahasuerus saw a Queen in her. He loved Esther more than any of the other ladies and the best he could do to show how happy he felt, was to make Esther his new Queen over Vashti. When God is taking you higher, it’s clear that it’s without much effort on your part, just God doing His thing. Forget about who you are and where you came from, Christ in you is the Hope of your Glory. God is so awesome! When God’s favor is upon you, even those around you are blessed as well. Mordecai ends up as a minister and the most trusted one not only because he saved the kings’ life but because Esther was part of his life. Because of Esther, the king was ready to bless anyone that blesses her and to kill anyone that tries to harm her. Step out in faith, your dreams are not too big for God, walk with your head high because His favor is with you and so man too will favor you. You will never walk alone, God goes before you to make every crooked path straight, His presence goes with you everywhere, He will part the Red Sea obstructing you from going over to the other side.
