I recently took some time to read the Book of Proverbs and i realized that the word 'understanding' is very recurrent and it's described as an absolute necessity. Understanding can be defined as knowing how and why God works. It means we're conscious that all the God does in His Sovereignty is based on His love for us. So much has been on understanding but look at what Proverbs 3:5 says "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding". With you knowledge that God loves you and He will never forsake nor leave you, you trust Him wholly and choose not what your senses are dictating to you. Here you have understanding of who you are in Christ. To further understand the usage of the word 'understanding', it is worth more than silver, gold or rubies. Christ has been made unto us wisdom, righteousness, sanctification and justification and as we grow to understand who we are in Him, we're described as being of an 'excellent spirit'. In Ephesians 1:17, Apostle Paul prays that the eyes of our understanding may by opened by the Light of the Gospel, that we may see the hope of his calling and His inheritance as saints. Don't forget that understanding is a gift from God as seen in 2 Timothy 2:7, "Consider what i say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things". It doesn't come to everyone but as you give yourself to the study of the Word of God, you'll realized you have the gift of understanding. In Acts 8:26-39, we meet the Ethiopian Eunuch who was reading the Book of Isaiah and yet he was not able to understanding and God led Philip to enlighten him on what he was reading. And by the Spirit of God he understood and accepted to be baptized in a river. This Eunuch by the Spirit of God received understanding of the Gospel of Jesus and declared that Jesus is Lord. I remember i used to read the Bible and i would not under and one night i prayed for understanding, Bible study that night was glorious.
Understanding is a gift that comes by revelation, it doesn't just come. Apostle Paul makes us to understand that his ability to understand the mystery of Jesus Christ is by the Spirit of God. If we seek understanding like we seek silver and gold by studying the Word of God we'll have the knowledge of God (Proverbs 2:4-5). Having understanding is being able to perceive everything about life from God's point of view. Thanks to the gift of understanding, we know that all things are working for our good. we can never be in a place of disadvantage. You are what God say you are and as He is, so are you in this world. His love for you is not based on your performance. Christ is at work in you and you are able to understand the message of Christ as well as preach it. I understand i am a new creation because Jesus died in my place and rose from the dead still as me. I am now a partaker of His Divine Life: Eternal life because everything Jesus did was for me. Iam all that matters to God.
